Metamorphosis- works by Anastasia Alexandrin
November 1st- 30th
At the core of Alexandrin’s current approach is the theme of Transformation. The works feature an intersection where drawing meets painting, and how meticulous black and grey realism coincides with bold colors in whimsical symbolism. From a background in creating striking imagery by primarily using charcoal pencils the arch now incorporates a celebration of color through encaustics to mash the life-like with Pop Art elements. Alexandrin’s images stem from illustrating stories of women empowerment, aesthetic beauty, and inner self, while citing that her favorite subjects come to her in dreams and thoughts. “This exhibition is a banquet of metamorphosis: a table set for all the selves we shed and all the ones still forming. The wax holds memory; the charcoal holds truth. Together, they fuse and fracture in an alchemy that reminds me: to become is to burn, to melt, to mend, and to begin again.”
