My paintings are focused on light, color, and composition, with strong emphasis on architecture and sunlight. I seek to capture the specificity of each place depicted. For the last 25 years, I have been painting on a small scale. The self portrait in this show was the first small painting I ever completed, and I have enjoyed exploring this scale ever since. I am committed to making art accessible in daily life, and small paintings have advantages in  portability and ease of installation. For me, scaling down has always been a way of getting myself to look at things more closely, and trying to capture the moments of light that show what is unique about each place and time.
