Tumbling Waters- works by Jason Maybruck
October 1st- 31st
Jason Maybruck is one of the most prolific painters around today. In his work he ruminates on the throughlines of people, creatures, and elements that make up a life in the moment and how they are able to transcend time, how we today can connect with the past, how we can honor these vital threads of the eternal everyday. His considerations run deep, although he may work on the surface. His visual vocabulary also aims for layers and exciting depths of details, where nothing is without consideration. Maybruck is capable of keeping the viewer from getting too lost, while always joyfully engaged with each painting. Part of a more recent turn of focus, this series echoes the modern man’s ancestral ties to values and considerations common of Indigenous people of North America, in particular the Seneca Nation.

Feelings of Home- Hui-yi Kuo
June 1st- 30th
Hui-yi Kuo’s assists us in transporting to a pleasant and whimsical realm by way of her art work. Gestures of serenity and affection often embody the imagery and concepts as Kuo taps into a portrayal of self through allegory and childhood memories. By way of skillful attention to detail in carving her wonderful and unique style of illustration ultimately demand notice and scrutiny. The choice of rice paper as the substrate not only acknowledges the tradition as a cultural practice, but more so adds to the diaphanous nature of imagery. Linocut printing is not so common place and when executed in such expertise and beauty then a spotlight must be shone on for all to see.

Memories- Dolores Poacelli
March 1st- 30th
Poacelli’s works of art have at their core a playful focus on the interactions of color, shape, texture, space, and tension. Melding the abstract, non- representative, and illustrations to achieve an enjoyable while contemplative device. The compositions navigate the relationship between these aspects in concurrence with one another to present such unique visual excursions. And yet the artist embraces spontaneity fully, sometimes developing a project from sudden new intentions after laborious preparations, even revisiting a piece for a new direction. Simplicity, instinct and indecision are as essential ingredients as the patterns and paints within these compositions. Texturally rich segments entwine with swatches of flat color fields, sometimes muted sometimes vibrant. The stillness of open space coexists with activated gestural lines and a harmony of emotions and concepts are achieved to deliver such depth to these contemporary compositions. The artist states her objective to choose a title that can emotionalize each piece, in order to connect the “individual to the universal whole.”
